FIREFIGHTER (HAZARD MATERIALS OPERATIONS)

This position is designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force civilian drug-testing program. As a mandatory requirement for employment in this TDP, the incumbent is to (a) refrain from the use of illegal drugs and (b) if required, submit to urinalysis testing. The selectee must sign statements acknowledging the position is identified as a TDP. This position operates specialized firefighting vehicles weighing up to 47,000 pounds gross vehicle weight (G.V.W.). Incumbent must possess a valid state license to operate vehicles driven; firefighting vehicles are exempt from Federal requirements for a Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth. Heavy physical effort is required in the frequent handling of objects such as cylinders and extinguishers weighing 45 lbs. or more; may be required to lift/carry personnel such as an adult male in emergency situations. Duties require full use of both arms, both legs and fingers to bend, turn, pull, crawl, kneel, and climb. Special Retirement Provisions Authority - FERS:

Qualifications:
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS-0081, Fire Protection and Prevention Series. SPECIALIZED
Experience:
Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-05, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes:
(1) Surveys a HAZMAT incident to identify materials involved, determines whether hazardous materials have been released, evaluates surrounding conditions; and predicting the likely behavior of a material and/or container. (2) Drives to the scene of the fire following a predetermined route or selecting an alternate when necessary and positions vehicle considering factors, such as wind direction, sources of water, hazards from falling structures, location of armament on aircraft, etc. (3) Performs work at airfields handling aircraft (e.g., fighters, bombers, cargo, passenger) carrying large volumes of fuel, conventional and sometimes nuclear weapons, or highly flammable or explosive cargo; or handling a large number of air moves, or a moderate number involving pilot training, or other air moves with high crash or fire potential. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS:
Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in -grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-05 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-06 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. MAXIMUM ENTRY AGE:
Title 5 U.S.C. 3307 authorizes the head of any agency to establish a maximum entry age for the original appointment of individuals to the position of primary and rigorous firefighter. For initial appointments, applicants cannot have reached their 37th birthday by date of appointment. Individuals who are past the maximum entry age limit (37 years) and have prior Federal civilian firefighter experience covered by title 5 U.S.C. section 8336(c), need to upload their first Appointment SF50's into a GS-0081 position to verify if age waiver is still required or if that time can be subtracted from your current age and qualify for reentry without the age waiver. CERTIFICATIONS:
Effective 1 Jun 00, all DoD firefighters and contract fire and emergency service personnel must be certified at the next higher level before being eligible for promotion to that level. Applicants must list their current firefighter related licenses and certificates on their resumes. Employee is required to be certified by the Department of Defense (DOD) Firefighter Certification System as Airport Firefighter (includes Firefighter I, II), HAZMAT Awareness, HAZMAT Operations, Apparatus Driver Operator Pumper, Apparatus Driver Operator- Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF). KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of hazardous materials emergency response procedures, equipment, and identification. 2. Knowledge to drive and operate firefighting vehicles of significant complexity; of the principles of hydraulics as they pertain to water flow, water pressure, water levels, line (friction) losses, etc.; and of basic and specialized airfield and structural firefighting equipment (fire alarm system operation, fire extinguishing equipment operation, etc.), techniques, and procedures. 3. Knowledge of basic building design, construction, and occupancy; and of the latest changes in aircraft cockpit design, ordnance placement, and cabin layouts to include the operation of hatch or canopy release mechanisms, ejection seat mechanisms, and/or oxygen supply systems. 4. Knowledge of emergency first aid techniques; and of safety requirements as outlined in applicable safety standards, regulations, and/or technical orders. 5. Skill in operating communications equipment. 6. Ability to maintain good working relations; to communicate orally and in writing; to lift and carry heavy loads; and to apply emergency first aid techniques. PART-TIME OR UNPAID

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
