The primary purpose of this position is to provide a student trainee in the Pathways Internship Program with on the-job training and guidance. The student trainee provides computer support and services to computer specialists and the organization. Performs coding and software installation duties. Provides services in association with the installation, movement, maintenance, and accountability of hardware items.

Performs tasks involving control of incoming and outgoing products.

PLEASE NOTE : This is not a developmental opportunity, this position may be filled at the GS-05. The individual selected for this position may be considered for promotion to a higher grade without further competition upon meeting all legal and regulatory/program requirements.
In order to qualify, you must meet the education requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Competitive Service Student Trainee Positions, for the GS-0399, Administration and Office Support Student Trainee Series.
EDUCATION: Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school study leading to a bachelor's degree or completion of 4 academic years of pre-professional study.
KSAs:
1. Knowledge of DoD and Air Force automated data processing standards, policies, and techniques.
2. Knowledge of information processing sequences, controls, and procedures; and computer hardware and/or software systems and their interfaces.
3. Knowledge of COBOL, FORTRAN, or other higher level programming language; and the terminology, codes, abbreviations, and graphics for preparing system documentation or programs.
4. Knowledge of local rules and procedures controlling job priorities and controls on access to data and program files.
5. Ability to use and maintain a computer system, equipment, and/or software.
6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE : Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

This is a Pathways Student Internship opportunity managed by the Force Renewal Program and centrally funded by the Air Force's Central Salary Account (CSA). The Internship offers valuable work experience directly related to your academic field of study. This is your opportunity to begin a successful Federal civilian career with the United States Air Force. As an Intern, you will be given the opportunity to gain the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to pursue a successful career with the US Air Force and upon completing your degree and meeting conversion eligibility requirements, be eligible for placement in a permanent position. However, it is important to remember that eligibility for conversion does not guarantee you will be offered a permanent position. The length of Internship is normally two years or when you complete your academic program and degree requirements.
This internship is to provide a learning opportunity for a student enrolled in a field of study relating to their career path, to enhance their future goals and improve their knowledge with work experience in a working environment
The entire period served under the Internship Program counts as the participant's trial period.
