Summary: Performs system safety analysis of complex and diverse research and development hardware and prototype systems.

MAJOR DUTIES:
Performs system safety analysis of complex and diverse research and development hardware and prototype systems.
Identifies safety critical components/functions of those systems and assists researchers in selecting or modifying hardware to meet safety criteria.
Assists researchers in developing safety mitigation strategies for those systems when engineering design or modification is not feasible.
Identifies, analyzes and develops controls for hazardous conditions, worker exposures and work practices in supporting laboratories conducting research for and assembly of those prototype systems.
Develops tools and techniques to analyze and evaluate prototype weapons systems leading certification or approval for use by higher headquarters and other agencies.
SPECIALIZED
Experience: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized Professional Engineering experience equivalent at least to the next lower band (DR-01) or GS-11 grade level or equivalent in an alternate pay system. Specialized experience is Professional Engineering experience performing system safety analysis of complex and diverse hardware and/or prototype systems.
